چکیده

In IEEE 802.16j wireless multihop networks, transmission latency from relay nodes to a gateway node is one of the important performance metrics. The transmission latency is mainly affected by a scheduling delay at every relay node, which is determined by algorithms for assigning time slots to wireless links between relay nodes. In this paper, we propose 2 kinds of time slot assignment algorithms for upstream wireless links in IEEE 802.16j multihop networks. One of the proposed algorithms assigns time slots considering the hop count from a gateway node, and the other takes the path from the relay node to the gateway node into account. We evaluated the performance of the proposed algorithms through simulation experiments and confirmed that our algorithms can decrease the upstream latency by up to 15% compared with the existing method, without increasing the average transmission latency of the entire network. Keywords-IEEE 802.16j, wireless multihop network, upstream, time slot, latency.

Real-time-service-based Distributed Scheduling Scheme for IEEE 802.16j Networks

Supporting Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for diverse multimedia services is the primary concern for IEEE802.16j networks. A scheduling scheme that satisfies the QoS requirements has become more important for wireless communications. We proposed an adaptive nontransparent-based distributed scheduling scheme (ANDS) for IEEE 802.16j networks. ANDS comprises three major components: Priority A...

Increasing Reliability for IEEE 802.16j Mobile Multi-hop Relay Networks Planning

Abstract IEEE 802.16 network is a new generation of broadband networks. Recently, relay stations in IEEE 802.16j are proposed to perform as lightweight base station solutions to extend coverage and/or increase throughput. However, the 802.16j networks are tree-based structure which suffers from the single point of failure problem. In this paper, we define the coverage problem to place the base ...

IEEE 802.16 standard is created to compete with cable access networks. In the beginning end users are immobile and have a line of sight with base station, now it moved to mobile non line of sight (NLOS) with the new standard IEEE 802.16e and IEEE 802.16j. The new IEEE 802.16j standard which is an amendment to IEEE 802.16e is mobile multi hop relay (MMR) specification for wireless networks. This...

Adaptive scheduling mechanism for IPTV over WiMAX IEEE 802.16j networks

A WiMAX technology is a very promising Broadband Wireless Access technology that is able to transmit different service types. This latter can have different constraints such as traffic rate, maximum latency, and tolerated jitter. The IEEE 802.16 Medium Access Control specifies five types of QoS classes: UGS, rtPS, ertPS, nrtPS, and BE. However, the IEEE 802.16 standard does not specify the sche...
